BARLEY is the featured grain of the season
Barley Burger Stew
Ingredients:
1 pound of hamburg
1 large chopped onion
2 celery stalks chopped
4 cups of tomato juice
3/4 cup of water
1 tsp sea salt
2 tsp chili powder
dash of pepper
1/2 cup barley
In large pan, cook hamburg and onion. Dran off fat. Stir in remaining ingredients, heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until barley is done and stew is desired consistency (about an hour). This is so filling and satisfying.
Barley Water for soothing an upset stomach
I've never measured the barley or the water but if you put a few tablespoons or so of barley into some cold water. Bring to boil and then let simmer just a little while. Drain the barley (throw that into some soup later) and drink the barley water (we let it cool some).
